My Favorite Children's Books

My best friend and I love to collect children's books. The illustrations are just as important as the story. Today I started a list for these books. Mr. Putter and Tabby by Cynthia Rylant heads the list. There are around 13 or 14 sequels to Mr. Putter and Tabby, and I have all of them. Arthur Howard's simple illustrations are as heart-warming as the stories.

Jasper the Jack Russell

Check out Jasper, my Jack Russell, on the video to the right. He was watching the Kentucky Derby 2010. I don't think his horse won though. He just wanders off at the end.

A Beautiful Day

From this day forward, I pledge to write in my blog everyday. We'll see how this goes. lol Today I'm going out to enjoy the simple things in life: A walk with my dogs Jasper and Jessie, next I'm going to take photos of all the fall colors at Cave Hill Cemetery (also an arboretum), then off to B&N or Borders to read to my hearts content. Maybe I'll buy a book and go down to the river and read.

Good Morning

If you want happiness for an hour — take a nap.
If you want happiness for a day — go fishing.
If you want happiness for a year — inherit a fortune.
If you want happiness for a lifetime — help someone else.

I'm Back

I'm an introvert and thought this would be helpful to other introverts. I've gotten an enormous response from this so I thought some other introverts out there might like to read it. http://diaryofsimplicity.blogspot.com/

Organizing

Speaking of simplicity, I'm the most disorganized person on earth. I've read every organizing book on the market. I've even considered writing one myself with a new twist, but while I'm thinking about it, someone else writes it.

I do occasionally stumble upon something that works for me. I hate carrying a purse. Furthermore, my purse always looks like the inside of my car which looks like it just drove through a tornado. Two years ago I got rid of the purse and bought a wallet on a string. It carries just the essentials: driver's license, credit/debit cards, money, etc. It worked like a miracle for me. So what do I do next, I see this really pretty red purse recently and decide I have to have it. Guess what! My purse looks like the inside of the car again so it's back to the wallet on a string. The thing I really like about it is the strap goes over my head, on my shoulder and across my body. I'm not even aware I'm carrying it.

I would love to hear any tips that have really worked for you. They might work for me also.

Shiloh and Morgan Stanley

These are my two cats. Shiloh is the black kitty and Morgan Stanley is the gray kitty. They were both rescues. I fostered Morgan when he was smaller than the palm of my hand. He had to be bottle fed. I now have 5 day old kitties I'm fostering. They are unbelievably small.

My Dry Riverbed

I spent the weekend building a dry riverbed with the help of a couple of neighborhood teenage boys. They did all the heavy work. Now I will add plants and other natural items to make it look like a natural setting.

Hard at work

I just had some rock and soil/compost delivered. (My compost won't be ready for a while.) I'm going to landscape my backyard in dog style http://garden-styles.suite101.com/article.cfm/backyard-landscaping-for-dogs   Those male dogs are murder on the plants, but I'm going to out-smart them. I'll provide pictures.  It feels so good to be out in the sunshine. I think Louisville is one of the hottest places in the country today. I love it!

My Dry Creekbed

I'm making a dry creekbed in my backyard. I'll post pictures in progress as I work on it. Here's the first picture of the yard where I'm placing it. This is before I've done any work at all as you see. Oh well, I can't find it right now. I'll post it later.

Gardening

Yesterday I had a wonderful day of working in the yard. I mowed the backyard, cleaned off the deck. Today I had planned to do more, but it rained, so I wrote instead. I've been posting lots of gardening articles on suite101 http://landscaping.suite101.com/article.cfm/how-to-build-rain-garden

Spring is finally here

The sun is shining, and I can finally stop fretting about the weather. I've already started doing some planting. I love to garden, and I'm going to start a cottage garden in both the front and back yards. The lawns are a lost cause so to heck with them. I like flowers better anyway. The best things in life, if not free, cost very little, like flower seeds.

Beautiful Day

Another sunny day and the snow is melting. I'm getting in the mood to do some gardening. My dogs need a good romp out in the sunshine. I'm trying to figure out how I can go to CA and spend at least a month or more.

Another Sunny Day

We're on a roll here, but snow is scheduled for next week. I'm starting to get organized with my writing on www.suite101 and http://www.examiner.com/x-11349-Louisville-Animal-Rescue-Examiner and http://www.ehow.com/members/ilivetoteach.html?view=3rd

I'm going to apply for an additional topic to write on for Examiner, but it's hard to choose which topic. I want to write on everything.

I'm being held prisoner by the weather

This snow really has me down. I want to go back to CA where I can get out and run around any day of the year. I'm taking care of my elderly mother, and this is not making life simple. Although CA has some serious drawbacks right now, like 10% sales tax.

Sunshine Junky

I'm a sunshine junky. This weather is taking it's toll on me. I was so depressed yesterday. I slept most of the day just like a hibernating bear. Sunshine is one of the simple pleasures in my life. As a matter of fact, it's at the top of the list; without it I can't function.
